TEACHING NOTES
Confusion between the letters b, d, p, q is a common indicator of a pupil having Specific Learning Difficulties. These pupils usually experience difficulties in one or more areas of the curriculum, most noticeably in Reading, Writing or Spelling.
These pupils will often perform to their potential where accurate written responses are not required and often indicate sophisticated oral skills and a well developed general knowledge. They often become aware of their difficulties as an early stage and this generates further difficulties relating to the development of a negative self image.
Measurable traits may include:
Always correct spelling errors resulting from ‘b – d’ or ‘p – q’ confusion. Provide suitable work to correct this difficulty.
Always correct the incorrect use of capital letters, especially B and D.
