Kickstart’s Beginning
Reading Programme provides the foundation that pupils need to get off to the
right start.
The attainment of the skill of c-v-c[1] blending represents a significant step forward in the development of reading skills as before this skill is attained the pupil will depend almost entirely upon sight word recognition.
The worksheets are designed to help the teacher progress through the steps of c-v[2] blending, v-c[3] blending before attempting c-v-c blending. By using this approach the pupil will be encouraged to vocalise the initial sound and medial vowel sound as a single sound and avoid the difficulties which arise when young pupils attempt to string three sounds together. Young pupils will find it far more effective to vocalise pa - t than fall into the habit of vocalising per - a - ter.
If a pupil is experiencing difficulty with Phonic Test 2 ~ CVC Blending, the First Phonic Blending Book is recommended as appropriate teaching materials.
